New Coordinator for Akadia Community Care

With a passion for inclusive care Heidi has found her place in the Akadia Community Care Clinical Team.

As Coordinator of Akadia Community Care, Heidi's role is to provide complex health supports to clients with disabilities in the Toowoomba community. Some of these services include but are not limited to continence assessments, epilepsy management plans, wound care and medication management.

We talked to Heidi about what brought her to Akadia.

Education and Experience

Prior to studying my Bachelor Degree in Nursing, I spent over 5 years working in the disability support industry as a personal carer. My passion for this industry began working in a summer camp in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. The camp was especially for people with disabilities and chronic disease, and lead the way in promoting inclusivity in our society.

Why Akadia?

I love working for Akadia as it allows me to combine two of my passions which are improving the lives of people with disabilities and providing health and nursing care to those in need.

Favourite time of the year

My favourite time of year is the autumn months (before COVID-19 of course) when the temperature has cooled down but the sun shines brighter than ever, and the air feels clearer. Nothing beats going for an early morning walk with that crisp feel in the air!
